For Out-of-Town Friends

Accomodations

There are not very many hotels in Des Moines, WA. Actually, there's only one. We have made arrangements with the Marina Inn for a great rate. The Marina Inn has a great location in downtown Des Moines.

We toured the Marina Inn the other day and negotiated a special rate for our guests. The hotel is clean and well maintained, but basic. The rooms are huge and all have mini-fridge, microwave, and kitchen sink. The rooms with one king bed are only $62, with two queen beds are $80, and the Jacuzzi king suites are $98. Besides the great rates, there is a shuttle bus to and from the airport that's just $10 a trip, not per person, meaning you wouldn't need a rental car. Our shuttle to the wedding will be picking up at the Marina Inn as well as the Marina.

Many of our favorite restaurants are within a few blocks of the hotel. Anthony's Homeport is a world-class seafood restaurant, sitting right on the Sound. For those of you that love seafood, this is your dream place. There are another half-dozen restaurants within 2 blocks, and another dozen within 4 blocks.

For those of you that would prefer to spend more to get a 3-star hotel, there are several near the airport. These include the Radisson ($82), Holiday Inn ($121), DoubleTree ($95), and gorgeous Cedarbrook Lodge ($189). You will need a rental car if you choose to stay at one of these hotels.

We've set up a separate blog to list travel plans for people coming to the wedding so friends and family know when and where to find you. If you will email those plans to Glenn at glenngruner@gmail.com he will keep that blog up to date.

You can find that blog at http://weddingtravelplans.blogspot.com/.

Happy Hour

Our favorite pub in Des Moines is the Scotch and Vine. This wonderful little place is on the same block as the Marina Inn. It has over 210 single malt scotches and over 200 wines, plus great food.

We love their happy hour which runs from 4-6 every night. So, we're inviting you to a No-Host Happy Hour (that means you buy your own drinks) on Friday night. We'll get a chance to spend some time with our out of town guests, get a head start on Saturday's celebration, then go our separate ways for dinner.

Sunday Brunch

The weekend will pass too quickly. Certainly, Saturday will be a blur. All too quickly our friends will be heading back to their homes, some of them thousands of miles away.

We realized that we've got all these tables and chairs, a large tent, and the beautiful Puget Sound to gaze at. So, Sunday morning we're inviting you to a relaxed breakfast starting at 10:00 back at the Seashore Club, catered by our friends at Tuscany at Des Moines Creek.

We'll have the shuttle running from the Marina Inn starting at 9:45, so everyone can join us.

Local Maps

Not everyone, especially those from outside the state, is familiar with the Seattle area. So, here's an overview of the Seattle area:
