Picnic in Provence

When we started planning of the wedding, we wanted a theme that meant something to each of us, and to the two of us together.

So, we started listing things that might fit. Wine. Our favorite restaurant in Walla Walla, Public House 124 and their truffle fries with aioli. Lavender ice cream. France. That's when it struck us - Provence! Heart of France's lavender farming, famous for aioli, and of course, France is famous for wine, as is Walla Walla.

So Picnic in Provence became the theme.

Wines

We love wine. During most of the year that means beautiful reds, as Walla Walla is home to over a hundred wineries producing wonderful red wines. But, September 15 is still summer in the Northwest, and white wines and french roses go great in the summer.

We will be serving wines we love:

2009 Sauvignon Blanc from Cavu Cellars
2011 Corbieres Rose (Domaine Sainte-Eugenie)
2008 Plumb Crazy from our friends at Plumb Cellars
2008 Columbia Valley Syrah, also from Plumb Cellars

Of course, we know that not everyone drinks wine. We'll have a collection of great beers from Glenn's favorite, Deschutes Brewery. Not sure which beers quite yet, but there will definitely be their Inversion IPA.

There will also be non-alcoholic beverages, including pink lemonade and sparkling water.

Foods

We will continue the Provencal theme with the food. Foods will include:

Salade Niçoise
Green salad (also vegan)
Fruit tray
Incredible meats and gourmet cheeses from our friends at Cugini Foods in Walla Walla
Flatbreads and gourmet breads from Macrina Bakery

Oh yes, there will indeed be cake, and lavender ice cream from Snoqualmie Ice Cream.

Music

The music will continue our eclectic theme. Sibyl's friend Isla Ross will be providing the music for the ceremony. Afterward, Isla will be teaming up with several friends from Sassafras and Swamp Soul coming together to play Cajun and Zydeco music . There will be Karen Kaser - fiddle and vocals, John Morris - accordions, Melanie Shelton - Triangle,  Isla Ross - fiddle and vocals.

You can see Sassafras playing below.

But there will be plenty of our friends that are musical. We're encouraging those that are to bring their instruments and have fun.

Oh yes, and there will be dancing, lots of dancing, so bring your dancing shoes! Sibyl has invited some friends of hers who are wonderful dancers, so she'll be asking them to do a Zydeco dance lesson as the music starts playing. We're hoping that will get everyone dancing.

Weather Provisions

We are hoping for nice weather, but this is Seattle, after all. We did move the wedding forward to reduce the chance of rain. There will be a tent big enough for all of us just in case, but if the weather is nice, we'll spread out on the grass.
